It's All in the FUNdamentals

I am big on fundamentals and mechanics, and, as you can see by the title of this article FUN too! Fun is so important when it comes to softball, youth sports, or for that matter. There have been two times in my life that I thought seriously about quitting softball and it totally as a player. Both times, the most important thoughts go through my head that the game just not fun anymore. I did not enjoy playing softball and that the main reason for myBelieve that renunciation of the game in general. That is why I feel it is important to remember, as is the coach or parents, that softball game, which should be fun, especially in the younger age groups.

Another thing is I'm picky bases. I'm working on right foundation, proper mechanics, until it great second nature. One of my first softball coach has for me and I went back to it again and again, when I began to fight. I have often wondered whatHave had kind of player I would have had that did not work with a coach bases to death because no bus after her and she emphasizes the mechanics drilled as she did. What I would have again if they do not fall on so stubbornly running through the basics again and again and again?

All too often I see coaches breeze through the basics. They are so ready to be other more "advanced" skills, but I see not the rush when your team does not get the basics downyet. For example, I've seen, 10U coach to play in turning the double if their team has a hard time just working Fielding a ball, so a catch and throw a ball. Why should how to make a double game, if you still have problems, make throwing and catching, in turn, worry? I'm not saying that you should never work on it, but it seems a bit silly to get me to work on the basics and drop to "on", something like that. I would still do the basics in practice and give some qualityTime, then perhaps the concept of the double play and work, it a little. But to spend all defensive measures in practice to work the double play in this particular situation does not make sense to me. Working the basics and "advanced" will be played.

It's the same thing with pitching, especially if it is only a starting pitcher. Working the basics! It always amazes me, coaches, parents or players want to see steps of never pitching toTake 5 different pitches in one year. Of course, if you are an incredibly talented athlete who happened to catch on the fundamentals and all other aspects of pitching, THAT faster than by all means, go for it. But most of us do not have that kind of superhero abilities. Fundamentals is what's going to give you the most power and accuracy, whether it threw the back of the hand or underhand.

Resist the urge to jump in and "advanced". Get the basics down, sogood that it almost becomes second nature. The rest is gravy.
